A small but active crowd braved the storm clouds for the 18th Duarran Brangus Sale held on property at Roma, Queensland. A mere 6 mls fell half an hour before the sale, settling the dust and with sun again shining by start time of 12noon.
Royal Queensland Show Grand Champion Brangus bull Lot 3 Duarran Haystack by Doonside Summer Wages - was star of the day, topping the sale at $22,000. He was purchased by Semex with a view to marketing semen around the world. Haystack will reside in Victoria. At 20 months of age he weighed 964 kgs, an EMA of 130 and fat scans of 16/10.
Close behind was Lot 5 Duarran Halifax, another son of Summer Wages. Also 20 months and weighing 940 kgs with an EMA of sq cms 127, the bidding quickly rose to $20,000 and was taken home by the Dingle family of Eidsvold for their Redline Brangus Stud.
Lot 4, Duarran Hastings, a stylish 22 month son of Duarran Eromanga was purchased for $15,000 by John & Nerida Allen and family for their Mawson Brangus Stud. Hastings weighed in at 1002 kgs, EMA 138 and fat scan of 15/9.
Once again repeat buyers selected lines of bulls, along with some new buyers, taking the cattle west to the Pilbara in WA, north to Cloncurry and Ingham, some locally, east to Beerwah, and places in between. We sincerely thank all bidders and wish those who were successful, great calves. Don't forget we always have bulls and females for private sale.
With an 80% clearance, the Red Brangus averaged $5880, Black Brangus av $4833, and the Red Angus averaged $3500.
